Handling & Transportation
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR BAKES
To keep your bakes looking and tasting their best, please follow these guidelines:
Transport Tips
-
Always lift your cake or cupcake box from the bottom and keep it level during transport and storage.
-
Turn on your vehicle’s air conditioning before arriving to collect your order.
-
Place your box on the passenger side footwell — never on a seat, lap, or in a packed boot/trunk.
Cake Storage & Serving
-
Store your cake in the fridge at all times, away from heat and moisture.
-
Remove from the fridge 30–60 minutes before serving (adjust for warm weather) to allow it to come to room temperature.
-
Display your cake on a sturdy, flat cake stand that’s at least the same size as the base cake board.
-
Remove all decorations (including toppers, flowers, and any non-edible elements) before slicing.
-
Store leftover cake in an airtight container in the fridge and enjoy within 3–4 days.
Cupcake Storage
-
Cupcakes can be stored in a cool, dry room, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
-
Best consumed within 48 hours of collection for maximum freshness.
Cutting the Cake
To get the best (and most!) slices from your cake, follow these simple steps:
-
Remove decorations
Take off any candles, cake toppers, sugar plaques, and internal support dowels before slicing. -
Mark your portions
Using a knife, gently score the top of the cake into 1-inch wide rows. This helps guide even slices. -
Use a chopping board
Place a chopping board next to the cake to catch your slices. As you cut, lean the sliced row gently over the board using your knife for support. -
Cut into long strips
Slice down in straight, even lines to create long vertical sections. -
Halve if needed
If your cake is 6 inches tall or more, slice each long section in half horizontally for more manageable portions. -
Serve with care
Use a palette knife or cake lifter to remove each slice cleanly from the board. -
Enjoy!
Your cake is now ready to serve — dig in and celebrate!
Non-edible Decorations
Your order may include non-edible decorations or components such as figurines, cake dowels, or cocktail sticks. Please be sure to remove these items before slicing and serving the cake.If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at info@amys-bake-away.com.
Hot Weather Bake Transport Tips
Summer sun is lovely — but not so great for buttercream! Here’s how to keep your bakes cool, fresh, and beautiful on the move:
Before You Leave
-
Turn on the air-con
Cool your car down before placing your cake inside. A hot car is the fastest way to melt your masterpiece! -
Bring a clear space
Make sure your car has a flat, clean surface ready (see below for the best spot).
Where to Place Your Bake
-
Best spot: the passenger footwell
It’s shaded, flat, and away from sloping seats or direct sunlight. -
Never place cakes on:
-
A car seat (they tilt and buckle)
-
Someone’s lap (too unstable)
-
The boot/trunk (can be too hot and bumpy)
-
During Transport
-
Drive carefully
Take turns slowly, avoid sudden braking, and drive smoothly to avoid shifting or sliding. -
Keep windows up + AC on
Direct airflow helps keep the interior cool and stable.
At Your Destination
-
Refrigerate ASAP
Pop your cake or cupcakes into the fridge if they won’t be served straight away — especially if it's hot and humid.
Important Note
Amy’s Bake Away is not liable for damage caused after collection or during transport. Once it's in your hands, it's your baby — treat it with love and care!
